What's impressive about Valis is that it has not only the ballsy blues brashness you'd expect from this smoked out branch of the rock-metal scene but also a rich, saturated - yet not overdone by any stretch of the imagination - sense of melody. It's like friggin' gorgeous stoner metal. I'm not kidding. And yet, for all the in-your-faceness this brand of music summons, there's a certain subtlety to how all the elements of the sound weave and mix together, creating a living, breathing, life consuming whole.
